Environment Minister urge ACReSAL team to ensure achievement of Project objective

Minister of Environment, Barr. Mohammed H. Abdullahi, has assured the National Project Coordinator of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), Mr Abdulhamid Umar and his team of his commitment towards the success of the project.

The Minister gave the assurance when the NPC led his team on a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Environment, today.

Barr. Abdullahi gave his commitment towards getting ACReSAL a permanent office accommodation to ensure convenient work atmosphere. He called for harmonious working relationship within the project staff both at federal and state level.

He commended the team for their efforts over time in putting together action plans that forms the basis of the ACReSAL and advised the team to focus on the implementation of the action plan.

He said that he has been looking for an opportunity to have a conversation with the team, to thank them for the commendable job and appealed that such efforts should be sustained to ensure that both the World Bank and Federal Government achieve the overall objective of the ACReSAL Project.

In his remarks, the NPC expressed the team’s gratitude for the consideration extended to them to serve their father land. He noted that the team came on the visit to reassure the Minister who is also the Chairman of the Project Federal Steering Committee (FTC) of their commitment to deliver on the Project Development Objective (PDO).

He informed the minister that he has received briefing from all the specialists in the ACReSAL Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) Abuja. He also noted that the team have visited ministry of finance as well as some Directors of department under the ministry of environment such as Environmental Assessment Department, Department of Climate Change, Department of Erosion, flood and Coastal Zone Management and drought and desertification department to strengthen collaboration and have a stronghold of the project.

He also told the minister that the World Bank has been very supportive and cooperative to ensure that he has a proper grasp of the project.

Earlier in his remarks, the former acting National Project Coordinator and Water Resources Specialist of the ACReSAL, Engr. Anda Yalaks briefed the minister that the team is in his office for a courtesy visit and to tell him that the handing over was successful. He noted that the substantive National Project Coordinator has taken brief and has been officially introduced to the entire ACReSAL team including the World Bank.

He thanked the minister for the opportunity to steer the affairs of the project before the appointment of the substantive NPC.
