NIMC Assures ACReSAL Project of Support -DG/CEO

The Acting Director General/CEO, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote has assured of the commission’s support to the success of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project.

The DG stated this in her office when the National Project Coordinator of the ACReSAL Project, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar and his team paid her a congratulatory visit and to seek for areas of collaboration with the Commission.

Engr. Abisoye echoed her excitement about the collaboration with ACReSAL to identify and manage beneficiaries database and noted that NIMC officials will work with ACReSAL team at the Local Government Level to ensure that data of project beneficiaries are identified and managed.

She noted that Nigeria can prevent disaster through geospatial data planning and management and there are countries that already know when flood will happen and the plan ahead to move communities living within the catchment .

In view of the above, she set up a committee between NIMC and ACReSAL to ensure outlined objectives are fulfilled.

In his remarks, the National Project Coordinator of the ACReSAL Project congratulated the DG on her appointment and informed her that ACReSAL is a-6 year $700m World Bank assisted project that seeks to address challenges of desertification and drought in the 19 Northern states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He informed the DG that the project is directly under the coordination of Ministries of Environment, Agriculture and Food Security, and Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation of which the ministers have given ACReSAL a task to collaborate with NIMC to ensure adequate identification and management of project beneficiaries records.

The NPC stated that the NIMC-ACReSAL collaboration will strengthen both institutions for effective and sustainable screening of the project beneficiaries; by improving the identity management for the nation and updating the database for the provision of social welfare and related issues.

He highlighted that ACReSAL intends to partner with NIMC’s enrolment centres in over 400 Local Government Areas in the 19 participating States and the FCT to achieve the target.

He also called for NIMC’s support in the areas of Management Information System (MIS) deployment and training of personnel which will result to transfer of skills and capacity enhancement.
