ACReSAL Team Monitors Progress on Sustainable Land Interventions in Katsina State
June 17, 2025
As part of the ongoing Hybrid Implementation Mission, a team from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project visited Katsina State to assess implementation progress.
The delegation, led by Lead Environmental Specialist Nagaraya Rao Harshadeep, included experts in monitoring and evaluation, management information systems, geographic information systems, and communications from selected states.
The team’s first stop was the Dawan Allah Forest Reserve in Abdalawa and Kwamgomi, Kaita Local Government Area, where a 5,000-plant integrated system combining woodlot, orchard, and irrigation is being implemented. Designed to combat land degradation, enhance food production, and create jobs for young people, the project has provided five agriculture-based Community Interest Groups with essential resources, including hand tillage machines, solar-powered pumps, and fertilizers.
The delegation proceeded to Ladana Goats Farm, where efforts are underway to cultivate 70 hectares of irrigated pastureland to support local communities in animal fodder production.
The team inspected the second phase of the Katsina Town Storm Water Drainage Management project and the ongoing construction of the 25,000-cubic-meter water reservoir, which will facilitate irrigation on 16 hectares of farmland.
