Joint World Bank-Federal Government of Nigeria Mission Receives Warm Welcome from Traditional Rulers in Nasarawa State

The Joint World Bank-Federal Government of Nigeria Hybrid Implementation Support Mission on Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project received a warm welcome from traditional rulers in Nasarawa State, marking a significant step in fostering community engagement and ensuring project sustainability.

Led by Dr. Iganya Joy Agene, Senior Environmental Specialist and Task Team Leader, alongside Abdulhamid Umar, National Project Coordinator, the joint mission team was received by the traditional rulers, who expressed appreciation for the project’s impact on their communities.

In recognition of her dedication and contributions, two traditional rulers conferred titles on Dr. Joy. HRM Alh. Dr. Ahmed Abdullahi Hassan (Koba), the Yakanajen Uke Emirate, honored Dr. Joy with the title of “Tozalin Uke Kingdom,” while His Royal Highness Alh. Sule Bawamer, the Sarkin Gudi, conferred the title of “Jaruman Gudi” (Heroine).

Notably, HRM Chief Samson Gamu Yare II, the Chun Mada, who previously honored Dr. Joy with the title of “NSTE Mada,” welcomed the team and expressed hope that the project would continue to benefit from her expertise.

The joint mission aims to assess project progress, deepen policy engagement, and ensure sustainability, focusing on landscape restoration, dam management, digital agricultural extension programs, including community revolving fund management. With these titles, Dr. Joy now holds a total of 14 traditional titles, recognizing her tireless efforts in driving development and community resilience to climate change.
