Our week began with a productive Joint World Bank/Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) review meeting for the Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, held on Monday, October 21, 2024.
Co-led by Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, Task Team Leader, and Abdulhamid Umar, National Project Coordinator, the virtual meeting assessed project progress, impacts and implementation strategies.
The one-day event brought together stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences and guidance, ensuring effective project implementation.
Key sessions focused on Engineering advancements, Water Resources Management and Dam Restoration, Monitoring and Evaluation, Strategic Communication, Environmental and Social Safeguards, Finance and Procurement best practices and Sustainability planning.
These comprehensive discussions aimed to enhance project resilience, foster collaboration and drive progress toward achieving ACReSAL’s objectives: Restoring Degraded Landscapes, boosting agricultural productivity, enhancing climate resilience and improving livelihoods in Nigeria’s semi-arid regions.
The meeting also served as an avenue to celebrate the achievements of the project so far. Notable accomplishments include restored hectares, development of six Strategic Catchment Management Plans, over 1 million beneficiaries recorded, Community Revolving Funds ( CRF) implementation, Sensitization and empowerment initiatives, amongst others results.
The meeting commended states that have demonstrated remarkable success and encouraged others to accelerate implementation, ensuring collective success in mitigating climate change impacts on agriculture.
Hosted virtually in Abuja, state project coordinators and their teams connected seamlessly, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose in driving ACReSAL’s land restoration, climate resilience, water resources management and climate-smart agricultural development goals.
