Mr. Abdulhamid Umar inaugurates FLID Technical Committee

Recently, the National Project Coordinator of the ACReSAL, Mr. ABDULHAMID UMAR, inaugurated a – 9 – member technical committee on the ACReSAL project FLID (Farmer- Led Irrigation Development) implementation plan.

Launching the committee during a virtual meeting hosted in Abuja, the NPC disclosed that FLID is a process where farmers, alone or as a collective, take the lead in the establishment, improvement, or expansion of irrigated agriculture”. As part of the ACReSAL project component B2 investment actions, FLID will support farmers at the household level to increase irrigation and through irrigation facilities farmers experience quick returns.

Speaking Further, the NPC noted that the FLID is an initiative that seeks to tackle the challenges of feeding a growing population, improving nutrition, adapting to the impacts of climate change, and reducing global poverty. In addition to the benefits listed above, FLID has potential to make substantive contributions to the attainment of many of the Sustainable Development Goals – particularly Goal 1: No poverty, Goal 2: Zero hunger, and Goal 3: Health.

Umar disclosed that the objective of the committee is to ensure effective implementation of FLID in inline with the ACReSAL project development objective, he therefore charged the committee to ensure the attainment of the goal.

Members of this committee were drawn from ACReSAL Project Management units both at the federal and state levels.
