Kogi State ACReSAL Empowers Rural Women, Distributes 300 Clean Cook Stoves

As part of efforts to curb deforestation, and build community resilience to the effect of climate change, Kogi state government through the ACReSAL project flagged off the distribution of clean cookstoves to rural women in Okene, the Central Senatorial District, this activity  will be replicated in the Eastern and Western Senatorial Districts of the State.

Delivering his speech at the flag off ceremony in Okene, the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, who also doubles as the Chairman, State Steering Committee, Chief Adewale Victor Omofaiye thanked the Governor of the State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his unending support to the ACReSAL Project in ensuring the success of the ACReSAL Project. He charged beneficiaries on the need to show appreciation to the State Governor, by putting the stoves to good use, as it will ensure that they cook in a more conducive and less smoky environment, and reduce some health risks which the women are exposed to owing to poor cooking practices.

in  his address, the Hon. Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Abdulmumin Danga was equally appreciative of the State Governor’s support for the Project, and urged the people not to relent in their support for the Government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Earlier in  her welcome remarks, the Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto indicated how delighted she was that the ACReSAL Project is implementing its first activity that is of direct benefit to rural women. She took time to shed light on the importance of the Project, and the need for the rural women to make the most of the opportunity for a better life presented to them by the State Government through the ACReSAL Project.
She further shed light on the dangers of climate change and global warming, as well as the role which the indiscriminate felling of trees in the State plays in aggravating the menace of climate change. She assured them that the clean cook stoves would bring about a drastic reduction in the overdependence on firewood as the major source of cooking fuel.

She therefore admonished the rural women to make the Governor proud, as he intends to stop at nothing in ensuring a safe and sustainable environment for the good people of Kogi State.

The event came to a close with the presentation of the much talked about clean cookstoves to the rural women, who were full of praise for Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.
